How a hand juicer is the best for wheat grass juice

June 29th, 2010 by Trooper

You may already be aware of the health benefits associated with wheat grass juice. Sold by many health food stores, juice bars and even gyms, wheat grass juice can be a great way to naturally detoxify the body and improve your health.

But did you know that you can make your own, saving you quite a lot of money?

Making wheat grass juice is as simple as sourcing wheat shoots, and having a suitable juicer to turn them into juice with.

There are two options for obtaining the grass shoots. You can buy them ready to juice, still growing in small trays, or you can buy a D-I-Y kit and grow it yourself. Growing it yourself can be quite a lot of fun, and looks really cute on a sunny window ledge. This is a great project if you have kids.

To extract the juice, you need a juicer machine. Although the temptation will be to look for an electric juicer, there are in fact many good reasons to stick with a hand juicer instead.

Why? Firstly it is a lot cheaper, secondly it is easier and potentially faster to use. Because wheat grass juice is only drunk in very small amounts (about 30ml) it really does not take long to juice, even by hand. The 60 seconds you might save by using an electrically powered machine instead will be lost again when you need to assemble and disassemble the larger, bulkier machine.

Whether you use a hand juicer or electric juicer the process of making the tonic is quite simple: Take a large handful of grass, cleanly cut it off, give it a quick rinse and then push it into the ingredient chute while operating the machine. It only takes one or two minutes to make a shot of juice.

The best hand juicer to look for is one made of stainless steel. These gadgets are virtually indestructible, and will provide you with many long years of reliable use.
